FESTPAC FLORAL ART COMMITTEE TO HOLD FREE WORKSHOPS IN PREPARATION FOR THE 12TH FESTIVAL OF PACIFIC ARTS
In preparation for the 12th Festival of Pacific Arts to be held in Guam May 22 to June 4, 2016, the Floral Art committee will be holding free workshops, titled Floral Art of Micronesia, to showcase the floral art beauty of our region. Demonstrators will create floral art representative of their Micronesian island. Participants will then be given the opportunity to learn and create their own. Three (3) free workshops will be held on Saturdays from 2-5pm: April 25, June 6, and August 8, 2015, at the CAHA art gallery in Hagåtña at the Terlaje Professional Building, next to the Guam Legislature.
Workshop dates and participating island representatives are:
April 25 workshop: Yap, Pohnpei, Palau and Guam
June 6 workshop: Rota, Marshall Islands, Chuuk and Saipan
August 8 workshop: Tinian, Kosrae and Kiribati

April 25 Workshop details:
During the first Floral Art of Micronesia workshop to be held April 25, a representative from Yap will create a headpiece called nunuw ; a Pohnpei representative will create a headpiece called mwaramwar; a representative from Palau will create a hairpiece called pung ra btelul, traditionally worn during a Palauan birthing ceremony, called Omengat; and a Guam representative will create contemporary centerpieces using recycled containers and local plant materials, including the piga’ in Chamorro, or “wild taro” in English.
